Hide Your Last Name on Facebook

We have been on Facebook since years. When other social networking sites allowed to have only First Name, why not Facebook? You might have wondered. Defining a name of a person on Facebook have some rules. Though a person really doesn’t have any last name, Facebook makes it compulsory to provide a last name. For people who have both First Name and Last Name, it doesn’t seem to be a problem. But, people who live in countries like India and Indonesia, they don’t concentrate much on their last name. People who don’t have last name, they use their father’s name or husband’s name as their Last Name on Facebook.

Not every person will have their name in a lengthy manner. People love short names and Nick names. As the Last Name field on Facebook is mandatory, we couldn’t able to have only the first name. But, Facebook officially provides a feature to remove or hide last name on Facebook. Really? Yes, but not in all countries. If you live in Indonesia, then you can hide your last name.

Hiding or Removing last name means, you will leave the Last Name Field empty on your profile. If you live in Indonesia, then you just leave the Last Name field empty but you might have seen people from other people also to remove or hide last name on Facebook but it sounds that it was a bug whichFacebook left out to fix. You might have really searched on web a lot of times to find about this. Some of the blogs have already posted the about trick but some say that they don’t work. I have tested this again and I would like to share the working trick with you.
If you live in a country other than Indonesia, you may just change your nameby changing your proxy address.Below are the steps you may need to follow:

Step 1: Log in to Facebook and head to Account Settings.
Step 2: As I said earlier that it works in Indonesia, you may have to change your proxy to an Indonesian Proxy Address. For that, you may need to head here:
http://www.proxynova.com/proxy-server-list/country-id/
I could find that some of the Middle East countries have blocked VPN sites completely. I admit that you can’t reach this link there. But still you can do them by using your friend’s computer through TeamViewer or whatever the Remote Desktop Client you are comfortable with.
Step 3: In the above link, you will see list of Proxy address and Proxy port. Note any Proxy address and Proxy port which have high Uptime.
Go to Run (Winkey + R) and type inetcpl.cpl. Click on the Connections Tab. Under Local Area Network Settings, click on LAN Settings button. Check the box “Use a proxy server for your LAN” and paste the Proxy address and Port which you copied from Proxynova site.

Step 4: Now go back to your browser and click Edit in the Name section. Remove your Last Name and type your password. Hit Save Changes button when you are done.
And now after Facebook saves the changes, you may see that your profile will contain only the first name.
After changing your name, revert back your LAN settings that you made.
Important: Before changing your name always think twice because of the limitation on Facebook to change name. You can change your Name on Facebook for 5 times above which your name becomes permanent and Facebook won’t allow you to change your name
